Playamar, Torremolinos, Málaga
We built these three small homes in Playamar, a popular tourist area of Torremolinos. The plot used for the purpose was originally occupied by a garden and a house in an advanced state of disrepair, totally devoid of any architectural value. The trees, plants and lawn are all situated 1.5 m below the level of Calle Tirreno. The two ground-floor dwellings were built with letting in mind, their upstairs counterpart belonging to the owner of all three homes. Comprising a series of geometrical volumes painted in white and pale colours in order to blend in with the garden landscape, with a bridge providing access to the upper apartment, they provide a fine example of architecture designed for a specific location, with rationalist touches and original ideas. This diminutive building is in complete harmony with nature, having been completely integrated into its setting. The garden has remained largely unaltered – a small plot of land with its own micro climate amidst the huge towers of Playamar, an intelligent decision on the part of the owner.
